Octoberfest Musical German Beer Stein

There is something about mugs and steins that play music.
According to info at Amazon.com;
This beautiful beer stein was handcrafted in Germany by Zoeller & Born. It has a pewter lid and the decal on the front of the stein features the famous Octoberfest in Munich, Germany.
The handpainted stoneware relief shows numerous edelweiss and enzian flowers. A mountain village scene is on the back of the stein. This .5 liter stein is about 12.5" tall and includes a wind up music box that plays "Edelweiss".
Zoeller and Born is a family owned operation that has been producing high quality beer steins since 1956. They specialize in steins with stunning handpainted relief. Zoeller and Born is one of only a few remaining German stein companies that still produce their steins in Germany with 100% German materials and German labor.

RARE Doulton OLD KING COLE MUSICAL jug mug w/ music box
The above mug sold for more than $1,800.00 recently on eBay.
It is a Royal Doulton, England - OLD KING COLE MUSICAL JUG
Doulton # D6014 CHARACTER (toby) JUG (mug)
Designer: Harry Fenton
Approx. 7 1/2 inches high (referred to as large size)
Playes the tune: "Old King Cole was a Merry Old Soul."
This rare musical tobie was introduced in 1939, and retired (discontinued) in 1939.
Listed on page 303 of The Charlton Standard Catalogue (PRICE GUIDE) of Royal Doulton Jugs, 8th edition (2004): $2,250.00.
It would be a great find if you see one at your local thrift store or at a a yard sell.

Condition, Condition, Condition
You know how they say in real estate, "Location, location, location!" Well in collectible mugs sales the word is condition.
If your are investing your money in collectible mugs to buy and sell. Or if you are just a collector the best thing to consider is condition.
Two mugs side by side, the one with the best condition is going to sell for the higher price. This is true of most collectibles.
The exception to the rule.
You have a mug that is rare (not that many are around) and desirable (a lot of people want it). Then condition may not matter as much. But you have to know that a mug has both of these qualities before you spend your hard earned money.

Question about a Shaving Mug
Shaving mugs are so hot that I often come across questions about them. Here is one such example.
Q: I have looked everywhere for a shaving mug. I can't find them at any major drugstore or even Bed Bath & Beyond. With a shaving mug, a guy can get the hottest, closest and fastest shave anywhere, anytime.
A: Drugstores and home goods establishments don't really carry shaving mugs anymore because very few men still use them to shave. The best place to find them is a Barber supply or beauty supply company. If there is not one near you then you can do a Google search and find one I am sure.
As for the vintage and antique ones, you just have to search at thrift stores, estate sales and other places that sale used goods. eBay and other auction sites are good places to look.
